Here He Comes
by Chanda Singleton Griesë
The stone which the builders rejected
has come, humble and meek, riding upon
the lowliest of beasts which carries the burden
of the one who will carry our burden of sin
Here he comes, so open the gate
to the city of Jerusalem, in like a lion
out like a lamb, the Son of Man,
the Son of God, our Savior and friend
Our Shepherd God, with staff and rod
God most high, come down to us
Hosanna in the Highest, hallelujah
to the Lamb Most high
Our King has come, the King of glory
King of power, and of mercy
Lamb of God upon a donkey
Lion of Judah, hear him cry
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, if only
you would listen
lowly children pay him homage
high officials offer scorn
If you silence, if you shame them
all his saints and precious children
lifting up the One who saves them
the very stones would shout his name
“In like a lion, out like a lamb”. Good thought.
